Corrections Minister Judith Collins has announced a new process under which Corrections will automatically notify Child, Youth and Family (CYF) when a person convicted of child abuse is released from prison.
After a recent case raised concerns about interagency communication, it was found in January there was a gap between Corrections and CYF.
According to Minister Collins, under the new process:
"Corrections advises CYF when prisoners serving current sentences for offending against children are released. CYF is also informed when prisoners with historic offending against children are released, where there is a concern."
The new process will particularly affect prisoners with sentences of less than 2 years.
