The Light Project launches new resource for young people worried about what they’re watching online
Check It Out is a new website developed by The Light Project for young people designed to address emerging areas of concern about online sexual content identified by young people themselves, including aggressive porn, AI-generated and cartoon sexual content, ‘incest’ and ‘teen’ porn, and child sexual abuse material. Check It Out features a series of Q&A’s offering practical information, guidance, checklists, and links to online and offline support services. The resource was created in collaboration with a range of sexual harm, digital safety, and regulatory agencies to support both young people concerned about what they’re watching and the professionals who support them.
UN Call for Inputs: Study on “the rights of Indigenous Peoples in conflict and post-conflict situations”
The UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples have issued a call for inputs for their study on “the rights of Indigenous Peoples in conflict and post-conflict situations”. The study will draw on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and will have a particular focus on Indigenous Peoples’ participation in peace processes. Further information, including on the submission process, the study’s objectives and key focus areas, are available at the link above. Submissions close 31 January 2026.
Latest suicide data released by Te Whatu Ora and the chief coroner
Te Whatu Ora and the Chief Coroner have released new data on suspected self-inflicted deaths for the 2024/2025 financial year. The data is compiled into a publicly accessible web tool, which also includes data on confirmed suicides up to 2021. For a summary of the high level findings, see Te Whatu Ora’s overview.
VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai hosting inaugural national conference on transforming the care experience in Aotearoa
Registrations are open for VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai’s inaugural national conference on transforming the care experience in Aotearoa, Kōkiri: The Future Speaks – 2026 conference running 16-17 March 2026. This conference will explore evidence-based best practice and research from both an indigenous and international perspective, centring care-experienced rangatahi as leaders in the national conversation on care. This conference is intended for care experienced taiohi, caregivers, kaimahi, providers, and both government and non-government sectors.
