IPCA release review of Police handling of complaints against Jevon McSkimming
The Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) has released their report, Review of Police handling of complaints against Jevon McSkimming (2025). The report details failings in the way Police responded to serious complaints made against former Deputy Commissioner Jevon McSkimming in 2023 and early 2024. UN calls for input on the rights of migrant, refugee, asylum-seeking and stateless children victim to, or at risk of, human trafficking
The UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children has issued a call for inputs for their report on the rights of migrant, refugee, asylum-seeking and stateless children who are victims of trafficking or at risk of trafficking in persons. The report will analyse child trafficking in the context of mixed movements and migration and will offer recommendations to strengthen prevention, protection and accountability measures. The call-for-inputs page above contains a list of key, but non-exhaustive, questions to help structure your input. Submissions are due 30 January 2026.
Initial findings of the Regional Transgender Healthcare Survey 2024-2025 released by Gender Minorities Aotearoa
Gender Minorities Aotearoa (GMA) has published the report, Initial findings: Regional Transgender Healthcare Survey 2024-2025 (2025). The report draws on data from GMA’s Regional Transgender Healthcare Survey, an online survey of transgender people who had, or had tried to, access transition related healthcare in Aotearoa. New report on the drug/substance use of parents with children in care, released by OT
Oranga Tamariki has released Analysis of Methamphetamine and other drug/substance use and the impact on children in care (2025). The report used the Integrated Data Infrastructure to examine the number of children in care who have parents that use or have used methamphetamine and other substances. The report also identifies current service needs and gaps for these children. Relatedly, Oranga Tamariki are running a webinar on the topic on Wednesday 26 November 2025, Beyond the Shadows of Methamphetamine and Substance Use: Creating Stronger Pathways for Children in Care and their Whānau.
New youth-focused resources aim to prevent violence and extremism and build social cohesion
Ara Taiohi has released their MOSAIC resources. This set of resources - a collaboration between Ara Taiohi, The King’s Trust New Zealand and Nas - aims to help youth workers have safe and meaningful conversations about racism, discrimination, and values with young people. The resources include MOSAIC Conversation Cards, an online pathway for deeper learning, and a practice note on identifying and responding to the radicalisation of young people.
