New resource from Shama: Maya’s Story: A Journey Through Safety and Justice

Shama has published Maya’s Story: A Journey Through Safety and Justice. Maya’s Story is a graphic novel that explores the connections between family violence, immigration status, housing, financial security, parenting arrangements, and the legal system. The main character, Maya, is a fictional composite character drawn from Shama’s own research with ethnic and migrant women, Navigating Safety and Justice in Aotearoa New Zealand (2026).

Shama launch report: Thriving and Ageing Well: Insights from Older People of Culturally Diverse Backgrounds in Kirikiriroa Hamilton

Shama has published a new report: Thriving and Ageing Well: Insights from Older People of Culturally Diverse Backgrounds in Kirikiriroa Hamilton (2026). The report identifies both the factors that support healthy ageing and the barriers that continue to affect wellbeing and access to services. It concludes with practical recommendations to improve inclusion and support healthy ageing for older people from culturally diverse communities.

Introductory workshops on new Sexual Violence Workforce Capability Frameworks

The Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention is running three introductory workshops on the newly published Sexual Violence Workforce Capability Frameworks. Follow one of the links below to register:

Netsafe launch training, Responding to Online Harm

Netsafe has launched Responding to Online Harm, a free, self-paced online training designed for adults working or volunteering with young people. The training explores common forms of online harm, how young people share their experiences, and practical ways to respond, support, and connect them with the help they need.

Consultation open on Regulatory Systems (Courts) Amendment Bill

The Justice Select Committee is calling for public submissions on Amendment Paper 635 on the Regulatory Systems (Courts) Amendment Bill. Proposed amendments would:

  • increase the number of coroners that may be appointed under the Coroners Act 2006, from 22 to 26
  • extend to Family Court Associates in certain circumstances the jurisdiction of the Family Court under sections 86 and 87 of the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988 (relating to reviews of personal orders and property orders).

Information on making a submission, including a full list of amendments and the bill in its entirety, is available at the link above. The deadline for submission is 3 August 2026.
