New report shares insights from three kaupapa Māori child protection organisations
A new report has been published by Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University of Wellington: Moving mountains: insights from three kaupapa Māori child protection organisations during a time of significant change (2026). The report examines how three kaupapa Māori organisations provided child protection services for tamariki Māori amidst the shift in Crown-Māori relations engendered by legislation like the repeal of section 7AA and the Treaty Principles Bill. It also examines how the shift towards a ‘by Māori, for Māori’ child protection system could be better supported.
Evaluation of the Court Support Service for children and young people released
Oranga Tamariki has released the Formative evaluation of the court support service (2026). The evaluation reviewed the service’s work to help young victims of sexual violence and their whānau navigate the criminal justice process and if it is being used as intended. Annual suicide data for 2025/2026 released by Coroners Court and Te Whatu Ora
The Coroners Court and Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora have released the latest annual provisional suicide statistics via the suicide data web tool. The web tool presents data on confirmed suicides reported by Te Whatu Ora and suspected self-inflicted deaths reported by the Chief Coroner. New research on young women’s experiences of violence and technology abuse
The National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges | Ngā Whare Whakaruruhau o Aotearoa has published Intimate partner violence and technology abuse: young women’s experiences (2026). It examines how technology mediates young women’s (aged 16 to 26) experiences of intimate partner violence and how it affects responses from peers, support services, and victim-survivors.
UN release 2026 gender snapshot of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations has released their latest annual Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The gender snapshot 2026. Covering all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the report spotlights the latest data and evidence on gender equality, tracking trends and revealing progress and gaps.
New report on compulsory mental health and addiction services, data on use of seclusion included
Manatū Hauora | Ministry of Health has released Office of the Director of Mental Health and Addiction Services Regulatory Report 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 (2026). This regulatory report contains collated data on the use of compulsory assessment and treatment legislation in Aotearoa for the 2024/2025 financial year. It includes sections on the Mental Health Act process and its uses, special and restricted patients, electroconvulsive therapy and the use of seclusion.
