The main focus of most of this research is on the association between alcohol use and misuse and intimate partner violence. However, it includes some literature which covers other forms of family violence including child abuse, and sexual violence. Research on family violence and other substance use and misuse has been included where available.

This selected bibliography is intended as a reading guide to assist those wishing to make submissions to the Government’s review of legislative responses to family violence. This was initiated with the discussion document, Strengthening New Zealand’s legislative response to family violence(Ministry of Justice, 2015a). Material has been selected from a range of sources. Official sources should be consulted with regards to legislation currently in force in any jurisdiction.

Reading guide for the family justice system review

This selected bibliography was created to assist those wishing to provide feedback to the Independent Panel on Rewriting the 2014 Family Justice System Reforms, also called the family justice system review (submission close 9 November2018). It also seeks to inform ongoing work on the family justice system and the Family Court. This reading guide includes research providing an understanding of how the family justice system affects the lives of adult and child victim/survivors of domestic and family violence and their whānau and families. It brings together recent New Zealand government documents, research and victim/survivor views on the family justice system.
