Consultation on the Ministry for Women’s 2026 Long-term Insights Briefing
Manatū Wāhine | Ministry for Women is seeking feedback on its draft Long-term Insights Briefing (LTIB), "Free to Lead: Tackling the effects of online harm on the pipeline of future women leaders". The draft briefing contains:
- what the Ministry knows about the nature and scale of online harm
- why it is a growing problem
- the risks to the future of women in leadership
- what is already being done and what more could be done to create a better future for women in leadership
Consultation closes Thursday, 9 April 2026.
CEDAW seeking comments on draft general recommendation on gender stereotypes
The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is seeking feedback on their draft general recommendation on gender stereotypes. The Committee’s final recommendations will provide guidance on the legislative, policy, and other relevant measures States can undertake to dismantle the gender stereotypes that uphold gendered inequalities. Submission guidelines and the draft recommendations can be found at the link above. Consultation closes 6 May 2026.
New reports on violence prevention in South Asian LGBTQIA+ communities and LGBTQIA+ rights in Aotearoa
Adhikaar Aotearoa have published two reports on LGBTQIA+ issues in Aotearoa. "Notions of safety": preventing family and sexual violence in South Asian LGBTQIA+ communities in Aotearoa New Zealand (2026) explores the conditions of safety and unsafety within South Asian LGBTGIA+ communities through qualitative interviews with 9 victim-survivors of violence. LGBTI+ rights in Aotearoa New Zealand: the past and the future (2026) explores the history of LGBTQI+ law reform in Aotearoa and provides a potential roadmap for its future.
New report published on the wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities in Aotearoa
IHC New Zealand have published From data to dignity: health and wellbeing indicators for New Zealanders with intellectual disability (2026), which builds on the original 2023 report of the same name using updated data from Stats NZ’s Integrated Data Infrastructure. The report gathers data on 38 wellbeing indicators for people with intellectual disabilities, covering areas such as health, housing, safety and income. Findings have also been broken down by gender, age, and ethnicity wherever possible. For more, see RNZ’s Data reveals scale of disadvantage for people with intellectual disability.

New resource: Supporting children and young people experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence
Australia's National Research Organisation for Women's Safety (ANROWS) have released a new practitioner resource: Supporting children and young people experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence (2026). This resource aims to strengthen the safety and recovery responses of frontline workers when working with children and young people experiencing violence. It covers five practice areas that offer diverse, evidence-informed prompts to apply in everyday practice.
