New report on interventions for migrant and refugee men who use domestic, family and sexual violence

ANROWS has released Interventions for migrant and refugee men who use domestic, family and sexual violence: Experiences and perspectives of migrant and refugee men and women, service providers and other stakeholders. This report examines the experiences, challenges and value of men’s behaviour change programs and other response interventions for culturally and racially minoritised migrant and refugee men who use domestic, family and sexual violence.

New research on stopping-violence initiatives and their impact on wāhine Māori and Pasifika women

Papakāinga have released Beyond the Tick-Box: Wāhine Māori and Pasifika Women’s Experiences of Stopping-Violence Programmes. With support from the Clare Foundation and alongside the Backbone Collective, Papakāinga has undertaken research to better understand stopping-violence initiatives and their impact on victim-survivors. This work is centred on the voices of wāhine Māori and Pacific women. Their insights reveal the gap between programme “completion” and genuine safety, highlighting the realities of coercive control, cultural dislocation, and the ongoing work of protecting themselves and their tamariki.

Evaluation of E Tū Whānau released

Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora | Ministry of Social Development (MSD) has released E Tū Whānau Evaluation 2025. The evaluation, undertaken to test the E Tū Whānau theory of change, strengthens understanding of how transformation occurs within whānau and hapori, assesses whether the key mechanisms used by E Tū Whānau contribute to intended outcomes, and informs future direction and decision making.

MSD has also released Te Pikitia a te Whānau Technical Report, which describes the development of Te Pikitia a te Whānau, one of the measurement tools developed by E Tū Whānau. The tool builds understanding of how and why change occurs, particularly in the complex community contexts within which E Tū Whānau often engages.

Evaluation of Pasefika Proud released

Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora | Ministry of Social Development has released Celebrating Pasefika Proud 10 Years On: An evaluation exploring the first 10 years of MSD’s landmark pacific family violence prevention programme. This evaluation, delivered by Moana Connect, examines the contribution of Pasefika Proud to strengthening Pacific family and community wellbeing, preventing family violence, building community capability and supporting Pacific-led solutions.

Evaluation of Ethnic Communities Violence Prevention released

Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora | Ministry of Social Development has released The Ethnic Communities Violence Prevention Programme Process and Outcome Evaluation. The evaluation was commissioned to build the evidence base for family violence and sexual violence prevention within ethnically diverse communities and to assess the implementation, early outcomes and learnings from two community-led ECVP initiatives that formed part of the programme's prevention approach: the South Asian Trials in Auckland and the Ethnic Communities Innovation Fund project initiative.

New Aotearoa case study on Te Aorerekura released by World Health Organisation (WHO)

The WHO has released Implementing a public health approach to preventing violence: Aotearoa New Zealand Case Study, Te Aorerekura, a generational strategy for eliminating family and sexual violence. This case study is part of the WHO’s ‘Public Health Approach to Violence Prevention’ series, which can be found on the Every Child Protected website as part of the Global Ministerial Conference to End Violence Against Children.
