Welcome to our Quick Reads format. Each week we share selected news bites relevant to family violence and sexual violence in Aotearoa.

2026 Family Violence and Sexual Violence Workforce Pulse Survey open

The Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention is inviting responses to the third annual Family Violence and Sexual Violence Workforce Pulse Survey. This voluntary, confidential survey is open to anyone who offers paid or unpaid support to people who use or experience violence. The survey aims to improve the Centre’s understanding of the family violence and sexual violence workforces in Aotearoa. It also provides an opportunity for respondents to share their experiences and offer feedback on working within the system as a whole.

The survey closes 16 October 2026.

New violence prevention toolkit for ethnically diverse communities

Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora | Ministry of Social Development has released a new resource: Community mobilisation toolkit: preventing family violence and/or sexual violence within ethnically diverse communities in Aotearoa New Zealand (2026). The toolkit aims to mobilise groups and organisations that work with ethnically diverse communities to:

• help focus their efforts and resources on actions that are most likely to prevent FVSV and create lasting positive change
• provide practical guidance for planning, implementing and evaluating community mobilisation initiatives
• implement tools and activities to help assess progress, measure change and strengthen their prevention efforts.

Disability and accessibility training for family violence and sexual violence leaders

Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora | Ministry of Social Development is calling for expressions of interest from leaders from family violence and sexual violence services interested in participating in disability and accessibility training. Developed by the Donald Beasley Institute, this training contains 10 self-paced online modules that cover topics like disability 101, accessibility and inclusiveness, and kaupapa Māori approaches to supporting tāngata whaikaha Māori who experience violence. Participants can also talk with and ask questions of disabled and disability experts in weekly live Zoom hui.

Annual caregiver survey report released by Oranga Tamariki

Oranga Tamariki has released the results of their 2025 Caregiver Survey: Annual Caregiver Satisfaction Survey: Full Report – Strengthening the caregiver experience (2026). Each year, Oranga Tamariki undertakes this survey to understand caregivers’ experiences and identify where support is working well and where improvements are needed. Human Rights Commission release resource on inclusive emergency management

Te Kāhui Tika Tangata | Human Rights Commission has released a set of resources on inclusive emergency management. The Commission has worked with disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori to develop resources to support more accessible, rights-based emergency preparedness, response and recovery systems across Aotearoa. Resources include a call to action, an evidence guide, a case study, and the captioned video, ‘Inclusion is Preparedness.’ Each resource is available in several different accessible formats.
